Dear Bernadette,
Introducing Bmail! It’s like email, but, well... it’s actually still just email. But because it’s from me, we’re now calling it Bmail. Devastatingly clever, eh? Actually, I can’t believe it’s taken me this long to think of it. Bmail should have been obvious.
Anyhow, now it’s official - as demonstrated by the “official” logo above.
This is a great time, too, to say thank you to all of you who religiously read these messages from me. It’s fun to look through the reports from my email service provider and see who opens and clicks on these emails every week. I appreciate it beyond measure.
For even more reading enjoyment, I've posted a new blog on my website called “All Things Considered: Three Ways to Use Fundraising's Magic Word” and it’s about how nonprofits can get prospective donors to consider supporting their cause.
Something else to consider is that #GivingTuesday is only 2 months away (December 1st). The following tidbits from a report on last year's Giving Tuesday results may help you think about what you need to accomplish in the next 60 days:
Demographics:
- 74% of GivingTuesday donors are female, 25% male, and 1% non-binary.
- 45% are Baby Boomers, 24% are Gen Xers, 19% are Millennials, 11% are Matures, and 1% are Gen Zers.
How does your audience fit into these categories? Can you target your messages to speak directly to those most likely to give?
Donation Vehicles
- The top three donation methods preferred by donors are:
- online with credit or debit card (62%),
- post mail with credit/debit card or check (12%),
- and PayPal (12%).
Are you set up to receive funds in the manner your donors prefer? If you accept checks in the mail but not Paypal, you may want to reconsider...they have an equal share in donor preference.
Communication Fondness
- The top three communication tools that donors say inspire them to give are
- Email (35%),
- Social media (25%),
- and Website (15%).
How’s your email game? List building, nurturing, and pruning are year-round activities that payoff when giving tuesday and other campaigns come into play. If email is the main way your donors become inspired to give, make sure you’re laying the groundwork when you’re not in the middle of a campaign.
See the whole Nonprofit Tech for Good report here. It’s chock full of statistics to help you formulate a Giving Tuesday strategy.
Also, I’m hosting a free Giving Tuesday Strategy Workshop on October 16th at Noon. If you or someone you know is interested, sign up here.
And, in case you missed last year’s Giving Tuesday recap on my blog, here’s a link to it.
Keep Up the Good Work!
